02. Abstract
A gamified sneaker design platform that tests whether design tools can build fandom through creation rather than purchase. The platform uses AR visualization to enable fans to design custom sneakers in real-time, exploring whether designing sneakers—a core ritual of sneaker culture—deepens fan connection. The project tests whether gamification features (time-based constraints) enhance or hinder fan engagement through design.
03. Research Question
In sneaker culture, where customization is central, can enabling fans to design sneakers build fandom more effectively than purchasing? Does creation itself deepen connection to sneaker culture, or does it need gamification to sustain engagement? Do time-based constraints make design feel playful or create pressure that diminishes creative expression?
04. Hypothesis
When fans design sneakers through AR tools, they feel more connected to sneaker culture because creation builds ownership. However, design tools alone may not sustain engagement. Time-based constraints test whether framing design as a game increases engagement, but may sacrifice design quality for speed.
